Lost Something or Found Something? iLost Can Help You!

iLost is a search engine that helps lost items quickly find their way back to their owners. Whether you've lost something or found something, iLost offers the fastest solution. All the items found by organizations and individuals registered with iLost are listed online. This makes it easier for lost items to be returned to their rightful owners. While iLost doesn't physically store the found items, it acts as a facilitator to make the process smooth. Additionally, iLost is available in 18 languages.

How Does iLost Work?

Found something? Register it!

If you’ve found an item, the process is simple. Take a photo of the item, add a short description with identifying features, and upload this information to the iLost platform within 30 seconds. This way, the owner can search for their lost item on the iLost website.

Found the owner? Match them!

When the owner claims the lost item, they fill out a claim form with details. If the details match the features of the item, you can easily connect the owner with their lost item.

How is the item collected or sent?

Once the owner and the item are matched, the next step is to organize its return. The owner can either pick it up or ask for it to be shipped. iLost helps with scheduling appointments and offers global shipping options. We take care of the whole process, so you can focus on the customer.

Happy Passengers and Users

Organizations using iLost report a clear increase in customer satisfaction. What starts as a frustrating experience for a passenger or user is turned into a positive final experience with iLost.

Lost and Found Regulations

The "Regeling Gevonden Voorwerpen" (Regulation for Found Items) in the Dutch Civil Code (Book 5, Articles 5-12) describes what to do if you find an item. According to this law, if you find something, you must report it to the municipality as soon as possible. If you find the item in a house, building, or vehicle, you must notify the resident or user of that place. The municipality offers a service where you can hand over found items, and they will give you a receipt. If you decide to keep the item yourself, you are responsible for its maintenance, ensuring it remains in the same condition.

Rights of the Finder

If the owner is not found within a year after the item is reported, the finder can claim ownership. However, if the finder does not report it to the municipality, they will only gain ownership after twenty years.

Finder's Fee

A finder who returns an item to its owner has the right to ask for a reasonable reward. This is usually around 10% of the item's value.

Professional Finders

These regulations also apply to professional finders who search for lost items as their job, especially for valuable items like cars and motorcycles.

Found Animals

A found animal must be brought to a local shelter. If the owner is not found within two weeks, the municipality can rehome the animal or, in necessary cases, put it to sleep.

This regulation applies to found items in the Netherlands. The laws concerning lost and found items can vary in different countries.
